LSAT Podcast Episode 45: How to Get Faster at Logic Games

PowerScore LSAT Podcast

In the PodCast’s 45th episode, Jon and Dave tackle one of the most common concerns students face: how to increase speed in the Logic Games section. This initial discussion focuses on proper study and review habits, outlining the fundamentals of pacing and how to improve it as well as timing advice to ensure you’re moving as fast as possible by test day. There are also some updates on the coronavirus’ impact on upcoming administrations, and news about LSAC’s likely plans going forward.

0:00 – Intro. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE! With an episode focusing on speed, Jon pours a Speedy Gonzales and Dave slows it down with a Lava Flow.

6:46 – This week in the LSAT world. How is coronavirus affecting upcoming LSATs? How is PowerScore preparing for it? What is going to happen with the March test specifically?

Speed & Logic Games

15:14 – Logic Games speed introduction. This episode will focus on study habits and broader, foundational preparation steps to take before diving into actual strategic diagramming approaches on a later episode.

16:30 – Knowledge is key. Make sure you know the common setups/game types, rules, and inferences to the point where acknowledgment is second nature.

27:55 – Flash memorize the rules. A key exercise that gives you the ability to reconstruct the original scenario/rules solely from your diagram/setup.

33:26 – Repetition = speed. Don’t put a game to the side just because you’ve already done it once. Make sure to repeat games until you can do them without a hitch.

36:41 – Perfecting games. It’s not enough to just get it right “under time,” it’s the ability to pick up a previously-completed game and work through it without any hesitation or uncertainty.

46:18 – Revisiting games. Even if you’ve previously perfected a game, revisit it to stay sharp and make sure you are still on top of whatever concepts you were focusing on at the time.

47:09 – Consider where time is being spent/lost in all parts of a game: scenario analysis, setup/diagram, questions.

54:40 – Don’t get down if improvement isn’t immediate. It takes time!!

58:14 – Outro.
