The LSAT you take—or retake—can have a great impact on your admission chances. Some of you may be asking, “Is the January LSAT too late? Are the February or April LSATs too late?” We survey top law schools yearly with those exact questions to find out admissions deadlines and the latest LSAT each school will accept.
Many of the top law schools are still requiring a January LSAT deadline. But, as you’ll see in the chart below, the February and April LSATs are definitely viable options for test-takers. A quarter of the schools still allow for a June test result, however, they admit that they will not review your application until scores are in. Because of this, spots are limited or may not even exist at that time. If you need help with any part of your application, we’ve got expert admissions consultants you can work with!
Categories We Use
- Rank: The rank for each school was drawn from the US News & World Report Best Law Schools 2024 rankings. We listed schools in numerical order by rank.
- School Name: This one is obvious—this column identifies the name of the school! For this post, we stick to the top 100.
- Application Deadline: The deadline is the date after which the school will not consider or review newly received applications. Having said that, several schools mentioned that the number of unfilled spaces affected how they view their “deadline” date. If they still have spaces available in their classes, they might accept applications after the deadline. The law schools we surveyed said chances of admissions are lowered once the deadline passes. Though unlikely, this certainly makes some of the deadlines less concrete.
- Latest Acceptable Test Date: For some schools, this is a “strongly recommended”. To clarify, these schools will accept this test as the first and only LSAT you’ve taken.
- Notes: To compile this list, we pulled data from US News, visited the schools’ websites, and contacted a majority of the admissions offices on this list. In some cases, the admissions folks had additional thoughts or considerations about the deadline and latest LSAT they will accept, and we added those thoughts in this column.
Let’s take a look at the list! If you have any questions or comments, please post below. If you plan to apply to any of these schools, we strongly encourage you to contact them directly to ask about their deadlines. We’ve seen deadlines change just in the last month, so let us know if you notice something we missed!
2024 Rank | Law School name | Application Deadline | Latest Acceptable LSAT | Accept the GRE? | Notes from the University | Difference from last cycle? |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Stanford University | 2.14.2025 | Nov 2024 | Yes | Application deadline was one day later last year | |
1 | Yale University | 2.15.2025 | Jan 2025 | Yes | Under our review process there is no advantage, in terms of the likelihood of admission, to applying earlier in the application cycle. In other words, your chances of admission remain constant regardless of when you submit your application. | No |
3 | University of Chicago | 3.1.2025 | Jan 2025 | Yes | The Admissions Committee reads files in chronological order by application completion date and will not begin evaluating your applications until it is complete. We evaluate all completed Regular Decision applications and issue decisions on a rolling basis until all applications have recieved an initial decision. Because of the rolling admissions process, we believe that taking the test before the new calendar year best positions you to get your application in early. You may take the January LSAT, but we advise you to submit all other required application materials in advance of the test so that the LSAT will be the final component of your application. | No |
4 | Duke University | 2.15.2025 | Jan 2025 | Yes | Applications may be submitted after the deadline if space is available. Applications are submitted for review by the date of their completion; however, there is no strict timeline for when decisions will be made. We encourage you to apply as early as you can without compromising the overall strength of your application. Select a test date that provides sufficient time for thorough preparation, preferably so the score will be available by the February 15 application deadline. Later test dates will also be accepted. | No |
4 | Harvard University | 2.15.2025 | Feb 2025 | Yes | Applicants must take either the LSAT or GRE no later than the application deadline (February 15). | No |
4 | University of Pennsylvania (Carey) | 3.1.2025 | Feb. 2025 | Yes. and GMAT | The Law school will accept approved standardized test scores for any tests administered before Feb 28, 2025, as long as your application is received by the March 1 deadline. | No |
4 | University of Virginia | 3.1.2025 | Feb 2025 | Yes. and GMAT | Only the January and February test scores will be considered as meeting the March 1, 2025 deadline as long as all other application materials are submitted and your file is otherwise complete. We review applications on a rolling basis starting in September. We will have already made a substantial portion of our offers by the time January or February test scores are received. As a result, applying with test scores earned later in the cycle may reduce your chances for admission. | No |
8 | Columbia University | 2.15.2025 | Jan 2025 | Yes | Apps evaluated on a rolling basis.Applications completed after the Feb 15 deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but are not guaranteed a decision and may be withdrawn from consideration. | No |

9 | University of Michigan - Ann Arbor | 2.28.2025 | Jan 2025 | No | The Law School uses a modified rolling admissions process, meaning that applications are reviewed as they are completed, but admissions decisions are not necessarily made in that order. Applicants are encouraged to apply and complete their files as early as they comfortably are able, because the later they wait in the application cycle, the fewer the seats that are available. It's helpful to take the test early enough so that if something goes horribly wrong, you will have enough time to take it again prior to the admission season really heating up—that means that taking the test by November of the admissions season in which you are applying is the safest possible choice. Exams (later than January) place you at a bit of a disadvantage because the score will not be released until about the time of our application deadline. | Application deadline was one day later last year |
12 | University of California - Berkeley | 2.10.2025 | Jan 2025 | Yes | Although our application deadline is February 10, we begin to read completed files as early as October. We recommend that you plan to take the test as early as convenient and no later than the one offered in January to optimize your admission review for the following year. We recommend that you plan to take the LSAT or GRE twice. We will accept the highest score you receive. If you have taken both the LSAT and the GRE, all scores will be reported to the School of Law, and you will be considered an LSAT candidate. Students may submit their application before taking the LSAT or GRE. | No |
94 | Saint Louis University | See note | Jun 2025 | No | The Admissions Committee begins the review process in November and the first round of decisions will be made by December 1. We admit on a rolling basis, so it is to your advantage to complete your application as soon as possible. *Said last year they were still making offers into July, but still advisable to take earlier LSAT than June. | Took up to July LSAT in 2023. No July LSAT date released for 2024. |
94 | The Catholic University of America | 6.3.2025 | Jun 2025 | Yes | N/A | |
94 | University of New Mexico | 7.15.2025 | Jun 2025 | No | No | |
98 | American University (Washington) | 3.1.2025 is priority deadline (Applicants who apply after March 1 may not receive a decision until after April 1) | Feb 2025 | Yes | We recommend that fall 2025 applicants take the LSAT no later than February. However, we will consider spring and summer LSAT test scores on a case-by-case basis. | No |
98 | Indiana University - Indianapolis (McKinney) | 5.15.2025 | Apr 2025 | Yes | We strongly advise applicants to take the LSAT in the summer of the year preceding the year in which they plan to apply for admission, and not later than April of the year they wish to start law school. Please keep in mind that admission is rolling and taking the LSAT late in the admissions cycle could impact your likelihood of being admitted, as there may be minimal space available in the incoming class. | In 2023 App deadline was noted as 6.1 |
98 | Stetson University | 5.15.2025 | Jun 2025 | No | Applicants may take the June LSAT as long as they submit their applications by the deadline. | No |
98 | University of New Hampshire (Pierce) | 7.15.2025 | Jun 2025 | Yes | N/A | |
98 | University of St. Thomas | 5.1.2025 | Jun 2025 | No | Earlier applications are, however, advisable, and the Law Center recommends submitting a complete application as soon as possible. | No |
99 | Mercer University (George) | 6.30.2024 | Jun 2024 | Yes | N/A | |
99 | University of Louisville (Brandeis) | 4.1.2024 | Feb 2024 | No | The Feb LSAT is last LSAT for regualr application deadline. Applications that are incomplete as of the regular application deadline are generally ineligible for institutional scholarship funding. The application for Fall 2024 admission will no longer be available for submission after July 1, 2024, and updates to incomplete applications will no longer be accepted. Must take the LSAT no later than June 2024 in order to apply for Fall 2024 admission. Rolling admissions, so spots may be full with a later LSAT, strongly advisable to take earlier LSAT. | Regular app deadline last year was 4/15. |

Is there a 2025 fall cycle version of this?

It is coming soon!

Any law schools that have a July 2024 or August 2024 deadline for the 2024 Cycle?
Dave Killoran says
You can sort this list by application date or last LSAT date and get a pretty good starter list. WUSTL is the highest ranked school that accepts very late, and they will take apps into July. Any school needs some time before the school year starts, though.
Thanks!

Are there any law schools that accept the August LSAT for the 2024 cycle?
Dave Killoran says
No, sorry, that is too late for them to make a decision for this year 🙁

Is there an updated post that is exactly like this for the cycle of 2023-2024 (starting 1L in 2024)?
Dave Killoran says
There will be soon!
Fatima Nazal says
Thank you so much! I’ll keep checking every week for it! Please let me know how I can find it when its available!
fatima nazal says
Also can you guys include the required scores for standardized tests and GPA for the schools as well?
Dave Killoran says
That is something that probably won’t happen here because medians are posted elsewhere online–it’s released by the ABA at https://www.abarequireddisclosures.org/disclosure509.aspx !

Was this for Fall 2023 or Fall 2024
Dave Killoran says
This is for the 2022-2023 cycle, which is ending now.
2023-2024 deadlines haven’t been released yet, but when they come out later this summer/fall, we’ll post a new blog then on those dates. They are typically quite similar, however.
Thanks!

Is Vanderbilt Accepting March and April this year?
PowerScore Test Prep says
Hi!
When we originally gathered info for this blog this cycle, Vanderbilt’s admission department stated April as the latest acceptable test; however I just contacted the admissions department again and was told that March would be the latest exam.
We strongly encourage students to check with the admissions departments of all the schools they are applying to for dates and deadlines, and emailing can often be the best method to get your answers in writing. You can find the Vanderbilt contact information on their website: https://law.vanderbilt.edu/prospective-students/admissions/
Thanks!

Okay I am a bit confused! What would happen then if I retook the LSAT in March while I’m under review for schools that don’t accept the March LSAT. If I did incredibly well would I send a LOCI and mention my score or would they be notified no matter what?
PowerScore Test Prep says
Hi Jess,
Thanks for the question! Schools will likely already see that you have a retake scheduled for March on the Law School Report they receive. It is possible that they render a decision with your initial score. However, it is much more likely that they will hold your application until the new score is available.
Because of this uncertainty, if you have a pending retake, it is still best that you write the school and request the action you prefer. Either ask them to review immediately with the score on record or hold until your new LSAT score arrives. Indicating this in a LOCI or an email should be sufficent enough. In any case, make sure they are notified in some fashion. 🙂
Even if you’re accepted with your first score, you’ll want them to review your file again if you improve your score in case you qualify for any additional financial aid.
I hope this helps! Thanks!

Thanks for the response Dave! What I meant by the reply I made on my first comment was **I** should have said “schools that will accept LSAT scores from these months” not “schools that will **only** accept…” because in my first comment the “only accept” in my original comment totally changed my question (I feel like I’m analyzing an LR with tricky language question right now lol!).
I am still a bit confused by the “first and only” in the original bullet, so I will restate my intended question: Will the schools that accept the 2021 June/July LSAT this year disallow a score from June/July 2021 if I take the February LSAT and cancel my score and then retake in June/July and submit that score?
The first and only makes it sound like you are only eligible to submit the June/July score if it is not a retake. Am I mistake in my understanding of first and only?
Thanks again Dave!
Dave Killoran says
Ahh, gotcha! And yes, it like an LR question 🙂
To your questions, good news: no, they won’t disallow it. If you take February and then cancel, June (etc) is still open to you. The “first and only” means that at those schools, students can wait as long as June (etc) before taking their LSAT. Thus, if June was your first LSAT then at those schools it would be just fine 🙂 Retakes are not being factored into the chart at all, because they don’t matter; if a school accepts a certain LSAT, it does not matter if it is a retake or the first time. The bottom line being is that we are trying to let students know how late of an LSAt they could take and still be in the running.
I hope that helps!
Andrew says
“Latest Acceptable Test Date: For some schools, this is a “strongly recommended”. Schools that accept the June or July LSAT have been highlighted. To clarify, these schools will accept this test as the first and only LSAT you’ve taken. Note: LSAC hasn’t released the June and July test dates as of this posting and schools are waiting for the score release dates before agreeing to accept those tests.”
I’m a bit confused by this bullet. Are you saying that schools that will only accept LSAT scores from these months only if they are the first and only test you have taken? For example if I take the test Feb 2021 for the first time and use the score preview to cancel a score I don’t like, will those schools disqualify me if I retake on June/July and submit that score?
Andrew says
Should say “schools that will accept LSAT scores from these months” not “schools that will **only** accept…”
Dave Killoran says
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the message! This is a case where the category name contains really critical information. As per the title, you are looking at the last date of each cycle that a school will accept. Now, for many schools that date is a hard deadline, but for others it’s more of a soft deadline, which is noted in the very first line of this description. But, in every case, as this is a the “last acceptable,” it means schools would accept results from that test and all prior tests.
So, for example, let’s use Yale. Their last acceptable was January 2021. That means if you took your first LSAT in January 2021 and kept it, you are in the clear and can apply. If you took any prior LSAT to January 2021 and received a score, you are in the clear. If you took your first LSAT in January 2021 LSAT and cancelled, then you are out fo the running at Yale; they don’t take later LSATs and January 2021 was the last acceptable.
Now let’s use Arizona. Their last acceptable is June 2021. That means if you took your first LSAT in June 2021 and kept it, you are in the clear and can apply. If you took any prior LSAT to June 2021 and received a score, you are in the clear. If you took your first LSAT in June 2021 LSAT and cancelled, then you are out of the running at Arizona; they don’t take later LSATs and June 2021 is the last acceptable (that can always change, so we recommend checking with the school when new LSAT dates come out in a few weeks).
The “first and only” simply means you can take that late LSAT as your only and be fine; it’ doesn’t have to be that specific month; if you took a test earlier one you’d be fine too. Think of it as a timeline window that opens int he fall, and then goes for various lengths depending on the school. Some close that window early (Yale), others much later (Arizona). So, aased on the name of the category, the description is actually correct here and requires no change–it’s accurate as stated.
Thanks!

Hi, I took the LSAT back in my Junior year of college in 2017. I did average on the test and know scores are valid for 5 years. I am strongly considering law school again after obtaining real world engineering experience and would pursue IP Law. Looking at acceptance dates now and knowing I would want to retake the LSAT, I am unsure the best course of action. The closest LSAT available now is the April test due to registration dates. I am unsure the best course of action. Apply to schools with my current test and denote I plan to register and take April? Otherwise, hold off, and limit the quantity of schools that will accept scores/applications following that test?
I appreciate the help and advice.
Dave Killoran says
Hi Harry,
Thanks for the question! to answer accurately, I need a sense of the schools you’d be looking at. Are they in the Top 10? Top 50? Etc.
Thanks!
